Resolution of the basic plan for the promotion of the 3D printing industry...Expanding application to medical devices, national defense, and railroads.
The government has set a goal to develop the 3D printing sector into one of the top five global powerhouses. The goal is to expand the 3D printing market to the private sector such as medical devices, defense, and railroads by 2022 and secure competitiveness in the market through development and deregulation of 3D printing application technologies.
It aims to foster up to 10 growth companies that generate more than 10 billion won in annual sales through 3D printing and catch up to 85% of the U.S. technology, which is considered the top technology country in 3D printing.
The government held an information and communication strategy committee presided over by Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun at the Seoul Government Complex on the 22nd and decided on the second basic plan for the promotion of the 3D printing industry. According to the National Information and Communication Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), the size of the domestic market in the 3D printing industry is expected to grow by 1 trillion won by 2022. It is expected that the value of using 3D printing will increase further as environmental changes such as the 4th Industrial Revolution and the COVID-19 Pandemic expand customized markets and reorganize global supply chains.
